The smell of fresh brewed coffee and eggs pranced up my nose. Cooking utensils tapped on the hot grills preparing morning breakfast. Students quickly graced through the student center, some leaving with Chick fil-a bags and others just rushing to their next class. Light laughter and quiet voices bounced through the crisp, cold air. The sound of students typing started to increase and the weights from the gym hitting the floor shook the foundation. The morning was just getting started.

I sat on the second floor

trying to mind my business and do some work of my own, though a tall young woman captured my attention. Her skin glistened and glowed like brown sugar mixed with coco butter sending me into a trance. Her eyes squinted scanning the room for a particular person, but her face went long when she realized they weren’t around She stood out in the crowd like a sore thumb. She threw the tempo off the beat and the dancers off their rhythm. She indeed was different. A gold bracelet suffocated her right wrist. She carried a brown, orang

e and black checkered bag. The strap clanged on to her right shoulder and she walked up the steps with a grace and pride like no other. Her short Ombre dreadlocks dance on her head to the rhythm in her steps as she made her way to the one and half floor. The chipped yellow paint on her nails creeped across her fingernails and the structure in her face fell expressionless. Her long legs were covered in coral colored pants and she finished off the unique outfit with a long sleeve cropped shirt. She seemed pretty chill and timid maybe, but she was radiating with afro-centric vibes.

Choosing the far-right couch she sat down and slowly slid her body down and placed her feet on the table

. With her legs in a 45-degree angle she swiftly whipped out her phone. Her fingers were moving at the speed of light. Her eyebrows went into a V shape. Her sugar brown cheeks slightly rose red. Abruptly she stopped. We locked eyes.

Another young woman boldly and beautifully wearing her blonde short cut ran up the stairs jumping in between us. My prey turned to her showing perfect white teeth and a beautiful smile.

“Hey,” she said.

Her voice was as fragile as thin sheet of ice ready to break at any moment. They hugged and the girl continued up the steps to the second floor. Immediately, she looked back down at her phone. Her yellow finger tips started banging on her phone. Tap tap tap tap!

She then started smiling! She no longer slouched in the chair, her torso stood tall. Her face lit up like

fireworks on fourth of July. She grabbed her bag and chasse’d her way to the steps. Her walk is no longer tall and graceful they were now short and bouncy. Her presence is no longer unique it’s common. She bounces down the steps toward a young brown man waiting for her. His didn’t glow like hers, though this negative aura lingered around his body. He stood at the bottom of the steps with a stern look on his face looking at his phone with a slight grin.

Soon as the two met, he dangled his phone in her face and pointed at his watch in a teasing manner. Ignoring him, her hands flung around his neck and a small giggle slipped out her mouth. I was disgusted, it was just another two people in love.
